About CCHS Academy
CCHS Academy — that's Cool Car Hat Spiders Academy — is a free educational project dedicated to the world's most misunderstood predators. Our founder, Professor Legs McGraw (pictured below, commuting to campus), believes the only thing scarier than a spider is not understanding one.
The mission
Spiders eat hundreds of millions of tons of insects every year, inspire breakthrough materials and medicines, and almost never hurt anyone. Yet they remain the most feared animals on Earth. CCHS Academy exists to fix that — one fedora-wearing lesson at a time.
How it works
- Six courses covering anatomy, silk engineering, species, venom safety, hunting, and ecology.
- Fourteen lessons, each a five-to-six minute read with real, sourced-from-the-literature arachnology.
- Progress tracking — mark lessons complete; it saves in your browser via localStorage. No accounts, no tracking.
- The Final Lap — a ten-question quiz. Score 8 or better to earn the CCHS Diploma.
A note on accuracy
The spiders wear hats. The facts don't. Course content is grounded in mainstream arachnology — numbers like prey-consumption estimates and silk toughness figures come from peer-reviewed ecological research. Where scientists are still debating (looking at you, web stabilimenta), we say so.
The fine print
CCHS Academy is an educational hobby site. Bite advice is general information, not medical guidance — if a spider actually bites you, contact a medical professional or poison control, not a spider in a fedora.
